PRN-Latino News from mikenova (16 sites)
One Palestinian Shot Dead by Israeli Army during Protest in Gaza GAZA – At least one Palestinian was shot dead by the Israeli army on Monday during protests near the separation barrier between Israel and the northern Gaza Strip, Palestinian medical sources told the official news agency WAFA.A 27-year-old man identified as Mohammad Abdul Hai Abu Obada was reportedly shot in the head by an Israeli sniper, an official source inside al-Shifa Hospital told WAFA.The protests were held hours after the funerals of three boys, aged 13 and 14, who were killed by an Israeli airstrike near the separation boundary on Sunday. An Israeli military spokesperson told EFE on Monday that around 3,000 protesters burned tires and threw stones at Israeli soldiers and the separation fence, and said that the army attempted to disperse the demonstration and “fired according to standard operating procedures,” which apparently include the use of deadly force. The army spokesperson added that dozens of Palestinian boats had also traveled from Gaza’s harbor toward the maritime boundary with Israel on Monday. The Great March of Return demonstrations along the Gaza-Israel boundary began on March 30, and have been characterized by Israel’s use of deadly force against unarmed protesters, killing over 160, including at least 34 children.During the same period, one Israeli soldier has been killed by a sniper from the Gaza Strip, according to the United Nations. The demonstrations are calling for Palestinian refugees’ right to return to their homeland inside what is now Israel, as well as for an end to Israel’s 11-year siege of Gaza.
